Opting to enroll in a non-essential elective with Niles Virtual School means the following:
Grades K-5
The classes taken through Niles Virtual School replace the time you spend each day in your "specials" class.
What does that mean?
That means that instead of attending "specials" during the week with your classmates, you would be in a computer lab completing the required virtual components of OUR class instead. If you chose to use one of our approved Community Experts (Optional Learning Experiences) and pair it with our virtual class, parents would need to arrange transportation to and from that experience.
Grades 6-12
The classes taken through Niles Virtual School replace your elective classes at the public school.
What does that mean?
That means that you would choose one of OUR electives in place of an elective offered at your public school. This means that during the time your classmates are in their elective class, you would be in a computer lab completing required virtual components of OUR class instead. If you chose to use one of our approved Community Experts (Optional Learning Experiences) and pair it with our virtual class, parents would need to arrange transportation to and from that experience.
Grades 1-8 (an additional option)
In addition to the above guidelines, grades 1-8 have the option of taking an additional elective through Niles Virtual School on top of their current electives/specials.
What does that mean?
That means that you would choose one of OUR electives in addition to your public school day. Please note that OUR electives are virtual classes and virtual assignments are required. If you chose to use one of our approved Community Experts (Optional Learning Experiences) and pair it with our virtual class, parents would need to provide transportation to and from that experience.
